Dual Credit FAQs

Dual Credit is guaranteed college credit if the student passes the course. Credit transfers easily to other public colleges in Illinois because these classes are articulated through the Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI).

Advanced Placement (AP) courses are based on one test at the end of the semester/year. Scores need to be sent to each college the student enrolls in. Different colleges have different policies for awarding credit for AP exams.

The cost of taking a Dual Credit course is minimal. 69风流 currently does not charge tuition for these courses. High schools may have a small charge for the course.

Students can earn college credit and high school credit at the same time, and learn the rigor of college courses; Dual Credit can save a student money; and Dual Credit saves time from taking the same courses at a four-year university

Students should talk to their high school counselor and enroll in a dual credit course.

Complete the . On page 7 of the application, under the section titled 鈥淧rogram," choose Dual Credit.

Sign to accept Dual Credit from 69风流 when the 69风流 representative comes to the high school.

Students should be sure to do their best in this course. If the student is struggling, be sure to reach out to the high school teacher or high school counselor.

Yes, the student can talk to their high school counselor if they are struggling with the course. The counselor can recommend ways to help or if the student should drop/withdraw from the course. The high school counselor will have the 69风流 dates for dropping or withdrawing from a course. Dropping a course does not show up on a student鈥檚 college transcript, but withdrawing from a course will result in a 鈥淲鈥 on the college transcript. A 鈥淲鈥 on a college transcript may impact future financial aid or scholarships.

Most Dual Credit students are 16 years of age. Students under 16 will need to complete a separate form in order to register. Typically, only students in the junior or senior class may take Dual Credit. There are some exceptions to this. Students must be able to complete college-level work. Math and English courses have requirements that must be met in order to be registered. High school counselors can submit high school transcripts that will place many students with their GPA. However, some courses might require students to take a placement test on 69风流鈥檚 campus or have scores from an ACT/SAT. Many other courses do not have prerequisites of any kind. High schools may have their own policies for allowing students to take Dual Credit courses.

Students who are struggling in their Dual Credit course should reach out to their high school instructor for help. Contact the high school guidance counselor for more help. In addition to resources for help at the high school, Dual Credit students have access to the same resources for help that other 69风流 students have. High school counselors can help make connections with these resources.

Most Illinois colleges and universities will accept college-level transfer credits. Many of the Dual Credit courses are approved by the Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI) and will have an IAI code. Students can check with the college or university they plan to attend to see if the courses will transfer.

Please check with your high school counselor since it depends on the availability of approved Dual Credit instructors.

For college-level courses, students should expect 2-3 hours of homework per credit hour, per week. Example: for a 3-credit-hour course, students should expect 6-9 hours of homework per week.

All students taking Math courses or English courses with prerequisites will need to come to 69风流 to take placement tests prior to registering for the Dual Credit courses at their high school unless they have received ACT/SAT scores that will place them into the course or they have a high school GPA that qualifies them for the course. When students are ready to take placement exams, please email 69风流's Testing Center, call 217-786-2211 or reach out to your 69风流 Outreach Center to set up an appointment.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. Forms to withhold or allow specific release of information may be obtained from 69风流 Records. Note: This form must be filled out by the student in front of an 69风流 employee or staff member.
