SPRINGFIELD – Lincoln Land Community College unveiled plans for a state-of-the-art solar array on campus, marking its commitment to sustainability and renewable energy innovation. The solar installation will be located behind the 69·çÁ÷ Child Development Center, 5090 Shepherd Road, Springfield. It will be funded by an Illinois Green Economy Network (IGEN) grant.

The solar array is the latest in a series of solar initiatives planned to reduce the college’s environmental footprint. In 2019, the college installed solar panels on the rooftop of 69·çÁ÷-Jacksonville and on the south slopes of two buildings at 69·çÁ÷-Litchfield. Those panels offset electrical costs at those two locations by 75% and 95%.

The Child Development Center’s ground-mounted solar array will be installed in spring 2025 and is estimated to offset 96% of the building’s electrical cost and have a positive environmental impact, reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
